Contemporary Italian furniture
Since 19th century, the Italian furniture is well known for its class, designing and sophistication. Initially the designers had to face lot of struggle and problems to create and maintain a balance between the modern creativity and classical elegance designs. With the use of exotic materials and creating sumptuous furniture, in 1900’s the Italian designs were very similar to the French art deco styles.
After the Second World War, the Italian skills in interior decoration became popular, and Italy saw a rise in the industrial production. With this the Italian designers also started making Italian furniture.
The credit of bringing the Italian furniture on top goes to Gio Ponti who with his elegant, stylish, sophisticated and refined designs got the Italian furniture such a big fame. Rationalism, a new and stylish furnishing that emerged in Italy in 1926 was led by Gino Pollini, Luigi Figini and Giuseppe Terragni. There styles were plain and simple and were generally made of tubular steel.
